We’ve all heard and read about widespread fraudulent claims that the 2020 presidential election was rigged; self-styled patriots across the country and in our state are promoting these lies about election security with the aim of suppressing the vote. Motivated by the same lies, many state legislatures are discussing and passing anti-democratic laws designed to limit the franchise of vulnerable groups. Some agitators are even encouraging harassment of election officials and volunteers, driving many to resign their positions or cease to volunteer. These include our neighbors we’re used to seeing at polling places when we vote.
Ms Gaskins-Nathan will discuss these destructive voter suppression efforts across the country and in Minnesota, and will explore strategies for defending our democracy against them.
